Pru Robbie
Weaver, Artist in Muka, Textile Conservation Technician
Pru has a Maunga Kura Toi Bachelor of Maori Art in Weaving with Te Wananga o Aotearoa, achieved with Excellence.
As part of the completion of the degree Pru wove a muka kakahu (cloak) using pony hair attachments, which was called Kahu Pōni. Te Manawa, Palmerston North Cityʼs art gallery and museum, are currently (October 2017) in the process of purchasing Kahu Pōni.
Working with muka is Pruʼs main interest and she accepts commissions as well as working artistically in contemporary designs featuring muka.
Other muka artworks include E Hine, a life-size Maori maiden in a muka cocktail dress, and Manu Hine, a half-size ʻbird girlʼ. A piupiu rapaki was made as a gift for a Marae.
Textile conservation projects have included repairs to an historic sewing kit and the conservation of a leopard skin.
